BettingBuck.com always recommends betting with a US regulated sportsbook over an offshore sportsbook. Offshore sportsbooks are not legal, not regulated by a US governing body, and often not regulated at all. If you live in New Jersey check out our Best New Jersey Sportsbooks.

YouWager is at a fork in the road in its longstanding career as an offshore sportsbook, and making the right turn will require a combination of keeping some features while scrapping others.

YouWager was founded in 1994 and accepted its first online wager in 1999, making it an industry veteran. Like many online sportsbooks, it is based in San Jose, Costa Rica. First Fidelity, the parent company of YouWager, owns four other online offshore sportsbooks.

Is YouWager Safe?

help 43
Trust Score

YouWager is considered high-risk, with an overall Trust Score of 43 of 99. YouWager is an offshore sportsbook that accepts U.S. residents as clients, which is considered illegal in the eyes of the U.S. Because YouWager is an offshore sportsbook, there is no protection of client funds if the company were to go bankrupt or mistreat clients. Trust Score is determined by several factors, such as years in business, legal status, and global footprint, amongst others.

Bets Offered

YouWager holds its own against offshore sportsbooks.

YouWager offers standard total, over/under, and spread bets in addition to parlay, round robin, teaser, pleaser, if bets, action reverse, rolling if bet, props, and futures bets.

YouWager typically offers 0-10 additional bets, such as alternative lines, will the game go to overtime? and the highest scoring quarter, in addition to straight bets. These are not exciting, but provide extra options to customers.

Player Props

The player props menu YouWager offers is the same as the one offered by 5Dimes, BetOnline, and MyBookie. Although the bets and odds for this menu are the same, it is still a lot of fun to bet on. This menu allows players to bet on the statistical performance of a single player, pair two players head to head for a selected statistic, or select three players to finish in an exact order for a selected statistic. An example of this would be betting that Aaron Rodgers will have more passing yards than Matthew Stafford during week one of the NFL season.

Player Props
A custom made bet in the player props menu.

A popular third-party software product amongst betting sites, the player props menu offered by YouWager is a great way to gamble on the performance of individual players. This innovative menu offers action on how many hits a baseball player will have, how many yards a football player will accumulate, how many passes a soccer player will record, and much more. YouWager describes the available bet types this menu offers as follows:

  • Statistic: A bet on a single player or two players combined to achieve a specific statistical performance (e.g., LeBron James to score 30 or more points against the Warriors, or Brady and Brees to throw for over 600 combined passing yards).
  • H2H: A head-to-head bet is where you select one player to outperform another for a selected statistic (e.g., Messi to have more shots on goal than Ronaldo).
  • Trios: Similar to a horseracing trifecta bet, where you select the three players to finish in exact order from highest to lowest for a selected statistic.

Special Contests

YouWager does a great job offering special NFL contests at the beginning of the season. One contest is a $100 survivor pool, where users select one winner each week throughout the duration of the season. The last player standing wins a grand prize of up to $50,000.

Another free contest is centered around Monday and Thursday night NFL games. Thousands of dollars of free play are up for grabs each week as users attempt to correctly pick the score of both the Monday and Thursday night NFL games. If multiple people correctly predict the score, the prize is split.

The third unique NFL contest YouWager offers is the NFL handicapping contest. All customers who have made a $25 deposit a few months before the start of the NFL season are eligible to play. Each week users make three against the spread (ATS) picks, and accumulate points based on how their picks do. At the end of the season, the top ten performers split $15,000 in free play money.

All three of these NFL contests are unique to YouWager and make the NFL season quite exhilarating. I hope the rest of the industry adopts contests like these.

Min/Max Bets

The table below shows the daily betting limits for the most popular leagues YouWager offers. Although this information is from their website, I found some of the limits to be inaccurate.

YouWager finished in 4th place in our 2019 odds rankings, offering solid odds for the most popular sports and leagues.

YouWager finished in 5th place in our 2019 odds rankings, offering solid odds for the most popular sports and leagues. YouWager offers above average moneyline odds, while offering average total and spread odds.

YouWager top odds: NFL moneyline bets (6th), NCAAF moneyline bets (6th), MLB moneyline bets (4th), all NBA straight bets (4th),

YouWager worst odds: NHL spread odds (9th), soccer moneyline bets (10th)

Ranking Process- For this review, odds testing data spanning the NFL, NCAAF, NBA, NCAAB, MLB, NHL, and top soccer leagues was collected. Odds data measures over 1,400 games across nine offshore sportsbooks and eight US regulated sportsbooks. Moneyline, spread, and total bets were analyzed and weighted to comprise a 2019 ranking for each league, with moneyline bets typically receiving over 50% of the weighting.

There are 16-17 sportsbooks ranked for each league, except the MLB, where only 13 sportsbooks were ranked. This is due to some US regulated sportsbooks rolling out after the MLB season concluded.

Banking Options and Fees

YouWager offers decent banking options, as long as you plan on withdrawing more than $100. Free withdrawals are offered if you meet qualifications, with a $100 minimum withdrawal for bitcoin and a $500 minimum for check withdrawals.

Deposit Methods

Almost all deposits are fee-free at YouWager, with bettors having multiple deposit options. Aside from the options below, bettors can deposit with MoneyGram, Visa gift cards, and Bank Wires.

Withdrawal Methods

A photo ID and proof of address are required to request certain types of payouts. YouWager offers free payouts for bitcoin withdrawals, as well as free payouts for check and person-to-person withdrawals, as long as bettors place a bet each week for four weeks straight.

While free payouts are nice, the minimum withdrawals of $100 for bitcoin and $500 for check are abnormally high. Most competitors have bitcoin minimums between $25-$50 and check minimums of $100-$150.

YouWager has a three times rollover and a seven-day minimum holding period for all funds deposited by cash, MoneyGram, or bitcoin, even without a bonus. Typically the rollover without a bonus is zero or one. The only other withdrawal method is a money transfer.

Live Betting

The live betting menu is outdated, lacks a score tracker, and has limited additional bets.

Live betting is currently offered for football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, and tennis. Unfortunately, YouWager offers the same live betting menu as 5Dimes. The menu is outdated, lacks a score tracker, and has limited additional bets. The experience is dry and leaves much to be desired.

Live Betting
YouWager's live betting menu is subpar.

Mobile Betting

The mobile website functions decently, although a few of the issues I had with the design of the desktop site carried over. For example, when you enter the amount of money you want to wager it doesn’t show the amount you will win until you click continue on the bet screen. You also can’t look at straight bets and props at the same time. You must click the type of bet you want to make to see available bets, and only those types of bets are shown.

Loading times on both the desktop and mobile version of the site can be improved.

Customer Service

Multiple employees refused to answer general questions unless I opened an account or called them about opening an account.

YouWager offers phone, email, and live-chat support.

Every time I contacted customer support as a potential customer, I was not met with helpful support. Instead, sales agents tried to get me to provide a phone number to talk to an agent. Multiple employees refused to answer general questions unless I opened an account or called them about opening an account. No other sportsbook I reviewed refused to answer questions like this.

When I initially opened my account without funding, I provided a phone number. I was met with multiple calls/emails encouraging me to make a deposit soon. Being contacted several times was annoying and made me skeptical about opening an account.

During many interactions with customer support, I was transferred to different departments. This occurred even for general questions such as “When was YouWager founded?” Waiting five minutes to be transferred for something simple made for a poor experience.

Education and Research

YouWager gives users a decent education section, going into detail about betting types and how to place them. The education provides enough to get users acclimated to the nature of sports betting and how it works.

YouWager is an offshore sportsbook, meaning it is illegal in the eyes of the US government. BettingBuck.com always recommends betting with a US regulated sportsbook over an offshore sportsbook. If you live in New Jersey check out our Best New Jersey Sportsbooks

YouWager has a longstanding reputation as an offshore sportsbook, being one of the few books that have been online since the late 1990’s. There are no scam reports or reports of the company freezing a player’s account.

It is worth noting their sales team acts independently, meaning they don’t report to managers. Because of this, there have been prior complaints about these sales agents offering account promotions without disclosing specific terms and conditions, such as the user having to wait 30 days before withdrawing funds. Sales agents also cold call and email customers offering them promotions.

The persistent sales team can be beyond annoying, especially for small time bettors.

Other Notes

YouWager has a slew of bonuses, some of which I’ve listed below. There are a few smaller ones not listed on this table.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, YouWager is an average sportsbook. YouWager did not receive or tie for a top score in any of the variables we measured for our first annual review. They did receive the worst customer support score.

YouWager offers competitive bets and odds, but still has lackluster customer service, live betting, and banking minimums. YouWager isn’t bad by any means, it just isn’t superior to its competitors in any way.

For the BettingBuck.com annual best online sportsbooks review published in 2020, a total of 2,300 data points were collected over six months and used to score sportsbooks. Additionally, odds data was collected for each sportsbook on over 1,400 bets to give each sportsbook a comparative odds ranking.
