William Hill was founded all the way back in 1934 when gambling was illegal in Britain. Since then ownership has changed hands several times. Today William Hills is a publicly traded company with over £1.7 billion in revenue (2017). The betting powerhouse was a first-mover on betting in the US, serving Vegas residents for years, so it’s no surprise William Hill penetrated the New Jersey market once sports betting became legal.
William Hill currently offers New Jersey residents ten different sports, which are shown below.
|Total Sports Offered||10|
|Aussie Rules (AFL)||No|
While this is a decent starting point, other US regulated sportsbooks such as 888sport and SugarHouse already offer more than 15. I imagine William Hill is taking a slow and steady approach to introduce new sports, but they’ll have to ramp up output to remain a valid competitor.
Despite William Hill being a leader in the European markets, hardly any additional bets are available in their initial U.S. offering. There’s little reason to bet with William Hill unless you’re just looking for basic spread, moneyline, and total bets. The popular cash in my bet feature is offered in Europe, but not the US. Professional bettors will appreciate the unlimited betting limits imposed by William Hill.
- Category Rank: (Leaders: SugarHouse, 888sport, DraftKings)
- Benefits: William Hill offers most basic bets, as well as unlimited betting limits.
- Considerations: Hardly any additional bets and props are offered. Offshore and US competitors are offering 100+ bets on each game, while William Hill only offers a handful or tow. Minimum bet amount ($2) is higher than most other sportsbooks ($1).
The table below displays featured bet types at William Hill.

|Cash Out Feature||No|
William Hill offers above-average odds, placing 5th out of 17 sportsbooks in our 2019 odds rankings.
William Hill top odds: NHL moneyline bet (6th), NHL spread bet (2nd), NFL total bets (4th), soccer moneyline bets (5th)
William Hill worst odds: NCAAF moneyline bets (12th), NFL moneyline bets (10th),
Ranking Process- For this review, odds testing data spanning the NFL, NCAAF, NBA, NCAAB, MLB, NHL, and top soccer leagues was collected. Odds data measures over 1,400 games across nine offshore sportsbooks and eight US regulated sportsbooks. Moneyline, spread, and total bets were analyzed and weighted to comprise a 2019 ranking for each league, with moneyline bets typically receiving over 50% of the weighting.
There are 16-17 sportsbooks ranked for each league, except the MLB, where only 13 sportsbooks were ranked. This is due to some US regulated sportsbooks rolling out after the MLB season concluded.
Banking Options and Fees
For deposits William Hill accepts credit/debit cards (Visa and MasterCard), ACH (eCheck), cash deposits at two New Jersey locations and the William Hill Prepaid Card. Deposits require a $20 minimum. Credit/debit card maximums are $1,000.
|Total Deposit Methods||4|
|No Debit/Credit Card Deposit Fees||Yes|
|Deposit Min/Max - Debit/Credit Card||$20/$1,000|
Withdrawals can be made through the William Hill Prepaid Card, as well as their retail locations. There are no withdrawal fees or minimum monthly fees for the William Hill Prepaid Card.
These banking options are poor compared to other US regulated sportsbooks, but still outmatch almost all offshore sportsbooks. The William Hill Prepaid Card can be used to make purchases everywhere Discover cards are accepted, as well as ATM withdrawals. While the card is a cool idea, it doesn’t offer special promotions or incentives. With limited withdrawal options, the card becomes more of a nuisance for potential would be customers.
|Total Withdrawal Methods||2|
|Check Payout Speed is < 10 days||No|
|No Withdrawal Fees - Check||No|
|Withdrawal Min/Max - Check||-1|
William Hill offers an above-average live betting menu. There are only a handful of live bets to choose from, which is fine for most bettors who just want to access live moneyline bets. William Hill does provide users with a live match tracker that follows the action in real-time. The tracker will display the position of the ball in soccer games or keep track of a batting count in baseball games.
|Live Match Tracker||No|
|Average live bets (in addition to straight bets)||<10|
|Total live sports offered||10|
While the app could improve the number of clicks a user must go through to get to certain pages, overall it is a sound offering.
William Hill offers 24/7 live chat, email, and phone support. The support is quick, and I often waited less than thirty seconds before being greeted by an agent. There were a couple of times when the agent was unsure of the terminology I was using but eventually helped to close out my ticket.
William Hill offers high-quality education, with a 19-page guide leading the charge. This guide covers definitions of terminology, examples of popular betting types, and what types of bets are offered for each sport. They also offer a first-time user guide that helps navigate through the website and place wagers.
- Benefits: William Hill delivers a comprehensive guide that covers anything first-time betttors might be questioning.
- Considerations: Navigating to the education takes twice as many clicks as it should.
William Hill is one of the most reputable gambling brands in the world, evident of operating internationally for decades. The only remnants of disciplinary history I was able to find related to accepting money that was linked to criminal activity, as well as not placing restrictions on an individual gambler who had an addiction. William Hill is incredibly reputable, and bettors should feel safe wagering their money with the company.
Promotions - William Hill currently offers the following two promotions to first-time bettors.
|WH50||Bet $50 to get $50 in free cash.||-Only available to first-time customers.||Upon registering, patrons have sixty (60) days to make qualifying wagers to earn promotional bonus.||Gravy||Deposit $100 to get $100 in free cash||Only available to first-time customers.||Upon registering, patrons have sixty (60) days to make qualifying wagers to earn promotional bonus.|
William Hill, Caesars, and MGM are three big names that appear to be taking a conservative route with the variety of sports and bets they offer to online customers. Perhaps they want to get their brand started in the United States while focusing on the variety at a later point in time.
The framework for the sportsbook is robust, providing top-tier education, decent odds, and a quality mobile app and customer support system. William Hill is a great choice if you only like placing total, spread, and moneyline bets. Bettors who want more variety are better elsewhere.
For the BettingBuck.com annual best online sportsbooks review published in February 2019, a total of 2,300 data points were collected over six months and used to score sportsbooks. Additionally, odds data was collected for each sportsbook on over 1,400 bets to give each sportsbook a comparative odds ranking.
