Overall

For a company new to sports betting, SugarHouse provides an impressive experience, exceeding expectations in almost all areas.

Note: As of May 2019, the SugarHouse app and web platform are also available to residents of Pennsylvania.

SugarHouse is a part of Rush Street Interactive, which owns and operates casinos in Pennsylvania, New York, and Illinois. Rush Street was formed in the mid-1990s, and has since built a portfolio of casinos, restaurant, hotels, and more. SugarHouse was licensed to offer its online platform to New Jersey and Pennsylvania residents via the Golden Nugget casino, as well as the SugarHouse Casino.

The online and mobile versions of the sportsbook are powered by Kambi, an online gaming provider that currently serves 22 online sportsbooks and casinos, including DraftKings and 888 Sports.

Sports Offered

SugarHouse currently allows bettors to lay action on 18 sports, which is impressive for a new sportsbook (FanDuel and DraftKings offer fewer than 15). Some sports, such as volleyball, may not be offered year-round, but are offered at some point in the year. Below is a table of all sports Sugarhouse offers.

For soccer, SugarHouse covers all major international leagues, offering bettors action on games around the world, from the US to Latvia. For football, basketball, baseball, and hockey SugarHouse covers mostly domestic leagues, with fewer international offerings.

Bets Offered

The volume of game props available across different sports matched a lot of offshore sportsbooks that have been in business for years.

In addition to standard moneyline, spread, and total bets, SugarHouse offers futures, prop bets, parlays, live betting, and teasers/pleasers.

SugarHouse surprised me, in a good way, with the variety of bets it initially offered customers. The volume of game props available across different sports matched a lot of offshore sportsbooks that have been in business for years.

SugarHouse lists most bets and props days before the game is played, which is not typical for most sportsbooks. The way SugarHouse categorizes bets is simple and efficient, providing a great user experience.

To give further context, a regular season NBA game separates bets into the following categories: spread & total, game parlay, player specials, player points, player assists, player rebounds, 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, second half, 3rd quarter, end of 3rd quarter, 4th quarter, and game props

Bets Offered NFL
Betting categories for an NFL game.

Regular season MLB games offer around 50 additional bets, while regular season NFL, NBA, NHL, and soccer games offer between 100-200 additional bets. Even less popular sports, such as tennis, offer an additional 20-30 bets.

The game and player props SugarHouse offers vary by sport, but usually focus on how individual players perform. While these props aren’t as innovative as player props menus available on a handful of offshore sites, they still provide the excitement of betting on the performance of an individual.

Pre-game statistics is another cool feature on the betting menu of each individual game. Although the stats are basic, I found them useful for pre-game research.

Cash Out Feature

SugarHouse sportsbook offers a cash out feature, which allows you to amend your original bet and lock in a profit or a loss by settling your bet (or a portion of your bet) early, without having to wait for the event to finish.  This revolutionary feature is available at other US-regulated sportsbooks, such as DraftKings and FanDuel, but not any offshore sites. Knowing you can cash a bet out early incentivizes you to watch every game you bet on, or at least get scoring updates.

Max Lines

SugarHouse does not currently have set minimums and maximums for each sport. Instead, the company assigns different maximums to each account. I will update this section when, and if, SugarHouse releases designated line maximums.

Odds

SugarHouse came in 12th place (out of 17) in our 2019 odds rankings, offering below average odds. On the brightside, SugarHouse offers good odds for the NFL, as well as soccer.

SugarHouse top odds: NFL moneyline bets (5th), NFL spread bets (3rd), NFL total bets (2nd), NBA moneyline bets (6th), soccer moneyline bets (1st)

SugarHouse worst odds: NCAAF total bets (15th), MLB moneyline and spread bets (10th), NHL moneyline bets (15th), NHL spread and total bets (17th), NCAAB moneyline bets (14th), NCAAB spread and total bets (15th)

Ranking Process- For this review, odds testing data spanning the NFL, NCAAF, NBA, NCAAB, MLB, NHL, and top soccer leagues was collected. Odds data measures over 1,400 games across nine offshore sportsbooks and eight US regulated sportsbooks. Moneyline, spread, and total bets were analyzed and weighted to comprise a 2019 ranking for each league, with moneyline bets typically receiving over 50% of the weighting.

There are 16-17 sportsbooks ranked for each league, except the MLB, where only 13 sportsbooks were ranked. This is due to some US regulated sportsbooks rolling out after the MLB season concluded.

Banking Options and Fees

Banking with SugarHouse is quick and easy.

Due to regulations, customers are not able to deposit and withdraw money for the SugarHouse sportsbook at the SugarHouse casino in Pennsylvania. Customers can deposit and withdraw money for the sportsbook at the Golden Nugget casino in New Jersey and SugarHouse Casino in Pennsylvania.

Depositing Money

Six different deposit methods are available for SugarHouse customers. A prepaid card, cash (at the Golden Nugget casino), Neteller, ACH, and online bill pay are offered, in addition to debit/credit card. Paying with cash allows customers to make a cash deposit at any of the many retail stores, such as 7-Eleven.

Withdrawing Money

SugarHouse claims that the most convenient withdrawal option for residents is the SugarHouse prepaid card, which allows customers to withdraw cash at ATM machines (there may be a fee, depending on your bank). Cash at the Golden Nugget casino cage Is another easy option for residents close to the casino. In addition to checks, users can withdraw money via Neteller and ACH.

Live Betting

The live betting menu is impressive, offering users scores, statistics, and a range of bets.

SugarHouse offers live betting for the following sports: tennis, football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, and golf.

The live betting menu is impressive, offering users scores, statistics, and a range of bets. The tennis menu even offers instant betting, which allows users to bet on each point in real time. The overall display is clean and easily navigable, providing a great live betting experience.

Another cool feature SugarHouse offers is a match tracker, for live betting sports such as football, basketball, hockey, and soccer. The match tracker has a live clock, displays the score by quarter, and even shows which team is attacking in real time. For NFL games, the match tracker even lists the last play, the total plays and yards on the drive, and the down and distance. While the match tracker is the same across other sites such as FanDuel and 888, it enhances any live betting experience and will continue to grow as sports betting becomes more popular.

Mobile Betting

The mobile app SugarHouse offers, available on all Android and iPhone phones, is excellent.

The mobile app SugarHouse offers, available on all Android and iPhone phones, is excellent. Navigating through different sports and betting types is simple, and having a constant live chat bubble available is convenient. I didn’t experience any lag or design flaws when testing on my iPhone 7 and iPad. My only complaint with the app is that when users select the help center, they are redirected to SugarHouse’s website, instead of having something dedicated in-app.

The normal desktop web version of the sportsbook is just as good.

Customer Service

SugarHouse offers daily live chat support from 9:30 am – 2:00 am and email support that responds within a day or two. The employees are all friendly and do their best to support customers. Phone support is available at (855) 752-9101.

Education and Research

SugarHouse offers bettors some basic education on how to read odds, bet on sports, place a bet, etc. The education will help first-time bettors, without making them feel they’re in over their heads.

Aside from the basic education, SugarHouse does not offer any additional education such as news articles, a glossary, or video tutorials.

Reputation

Being new to sports betting, there isn’t anything negative about the overall reputation of SugarHouse. Rush Street Gaming, the parent company of SugarHouse, is privately held and owns and operates multiple casinos. The technology for the sportsbook is powered by Kambi, which is one of the largest providers of sportsbooks in Europe. SugarHouse is partnered with the Golden Nugget Casino in New Jersey and SugarHouse Casino in Pennsylvania, which are regulated by the state. If something negative comes out about SugarHouse as the sportsbook develops, I will update this section of the review.

Other Notes

While I typically don’t comment on promotions, the intro to sports betting promo listed below is exceptional.

Promotions

Although promotions are not a part of our overall rating, they are a factor in deciding which sportsbook to use, so we have listed all available sportsbook promotions. A wide variety of promotions and loyalty programs are offered for casino players that are not included here.

While I typically don’t comment on promotions, the intro to sports betting promo listed when this review was conducted is exceptional. A 1X rollover for a 100% match is a rarity and bettors should take advantage of it.

Sports betting bonuses are eligible on bets that have odds of -200 or higher.

Bonus Name Promo Code Minimum Deposit Terms and Conditions Rollover
Introducing Sports Betting 250Match $10 100% match, up to $250, on first deposit only 1X

Final Thoughts

Although SugarHouse is new to sports betting, it has exceeded expectations with its initial offering. The interface is smooth, there are plenty of game props and bets to keep fans energetic, and the cash out feature is an industry driver. The 100% first deposit bonus with a 1X rollover is also one of a kind. If customers don’t mind the lower than average odds, they should seriously consider making SugarHouse their go-to app for sports betting.
