Overall Summary

Hard Rock Sportsbook is meant for bettors who enjoy iGaming (online slots) more than sports betting. Sports betting options are basic, failing to compete with top-tier New Jersey Sportsbooks. Hard Rock can provide value to users who primarily play online slots.

Benefits

  • Basic sports and bets offered.
  • Good variety of casino games.

Considerations

  • Limited live betting menu
  • Horse racing is not available.
  • No education for first-time bettors.
  • Signing up for an account is more tedious than it should be.

Bets Offered

Hard Rock offers all the basics, including moneyline, spread, total, future, parlay, prop, and round robin bets. If you only need a sportsbook that offers the standard slate of bets, along with some alternative spreads and totals, Hard Rock will suffice.

Benefits

  • Offers spread, total, and moneyline bets for each quarter or half of NHL and NBA games.
  • Offers props for anytime goal scorer, first goal scorer, and correct score for soccer games.

Considerations

  • For MLB, NBA, and NHL games, there are almost no exotic props or even player props for that matter.
  • There are no daily odds boosts offered.

Banking Options and Fees

Hard Rock Sportsbook offers six different deposit options, including ACH (e-check), Credit Card, PayNearMe, PayPal, Play Plus, and cash at the casino cage. Minimum deposits are $10 for all methods except PayPal, which is $20.

Bettors are currently limited to three withdrawal methods: bank transfer, ACH (e-check), or cash at the casino cage. Minimum withdrawals are $10 for all methods except cash at the cage, which is $1.

Hard Rock banking will be sufficient for most residents of New Jersey, although it is disappointing they don't offer PayPal withdrawals. If you require other forms of banking, check out New Jersey leaders BetStars and 888sport.

Sports Offered

Hard Rock currently offers 12 sports, covering the most popular leagues. The only international leagues I saw betting options available for were soccer leagues. In comparison, SugarHouse, DraftKings, and PointsBet all offer between 15 – 18 sports.

Odds

Hard Rock was established after our 2018 odds testing concluded, so I was not able to grab the hundreds of data points necessary to compare it amongst other sportsbooks. Odds will be factored into the score for next years review.

Live Betting

Hard Rock Sportsbook live betting is barebones, failing to offer a live match tracker or play by play updates and scores.

Benefits

  • There are a few decent live bets, such as individual innings in baseball, or quarters in basketball.

Considerations

  • There are no instant bets. For example, in tennis, you can’t bet on the next serve or point. In baseball, you can not bet on the outcome for a single at-bat.
  • There is no live match tracker or score tracker. Hard Rock only lists game scores and does not attempt to provide users anything else.

Customer Service

Hard Rock Sportsbook offers 24/7 live chat and phone support. The sportsbook also offers email support. My questions were typically answered quickly by knowledgeable employees. I tried resetting my password via email and had to call in to verify my identity. While I appreciate the emphasis of safety, the process of creating an account took a lot longer than other New Jersey sportsbooks.

Education and Research

Hard Rock is one of two sportsbooks reviewed on this site with absolutely no education or statistics. There are not even simple definitions or explanations of betting types. If you are a first-time sports bettor, I would recommend betting somewhere else unless you are educated on different types of bets.

Benefits

  • None.

Considerations

  • There are no pre-game or post-game statistics. There are no explinations of betting types. There is no education at all for bettors.

Reputation

Hard Rock is one of the newest sportsbooks in the industry, debuting in early 2019. Hard Rock is regulated in the United States by New Jersey and has not had any legal issues or customer dissatisfaction issues. Since Hard Rock is new to sports betting and has no European history like competitors, it’s worth mentioning that there could be some hiccups during the first few months of the opening of the sportsbook.

Other Notes

Casino Games - Hard Rock currently offers 257 different online slot games. The online casino and sportsbook also offer three card poker, video poker, baccarat, multiple variations of blackjack, and numerous variations of roulette. Live dealer baccarat, blackjack, roulette, three card poker, and ultimate Texas Holdem are available every day from 11 AM to 3 AM.

Promotions - Hard Rock offers a variety of promotions focused on getting users to play their casino games. One promotion in May of 2019 gave away a new Chevy Camaro once a week for four weeks. Slot tournaments give players Rock Coins, Hard Rock’s currency that you can swap for in-game bonuses and real-world rewards. During these tournaments,’ players have a set amount of time to play a specific slot game and try and accumulate as many points as possible. The more money you bet, the more points you get.

Sports betting promotions in May of 2019 include a $100 risk-free bet for new bettors. This promotion allows a bettor to get a refund on a losing bet of $100 after depositing $100. The promotion must be used within seven days of creating an account. Other sports promotions include 10% cash back on live in-game wagers (terms and conditions apply).

Final Thoughts

As a sports betting app, Hard Rock Sportsbook just doesn't compete with New Jersey leaders. If you enjoy a wide variety of casino games and promotions, while occasionally betting on a sports game, then Hard Rock canbe a viable option.

Methodology

For the BettingBuck.com annual best online sportsbooks review published in February 2019, a total of 2,300 data points were collected over six months and used to score sportsbooks. Additionally, odds data was collected for each sportsbook on over 1,400 bets to give each sportsbook a comparative odds ranking.
