888sport, a subsidiary of 888 Holdings, was launched in Europe in 2008. It’s no surprise the sportsbook made a move towards the US market when PAPSA was overturned in May of 2018. 888sport has partnered with Caesars Atlantic City Casino in New Jersey to offer online sports betting and is powered by Kambi, a leading sports betting software provider. Kambi also powers SugarHouse and DraftKings, and the resemblance between 888sport and SugarHouse is almost identical. Almost all of the bets and sports offered by SugarHouse and 888Sport are identical. The critical differences between the two sportsbooks are odds, education, customer support, and bonuses, so if those are important to you keep reading!
888 Sports came out swinging, offering New Jersey residents 17 sports, a variety of leagues, and an established brand. 888 currently offers the following sports, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they add more, considering the European version of the site offers over 30.
|Total Sports Offered||17|
|Aussie Rules (AFL)||Yes|
888sport offers an excellent variety of bets, offering standard straight bets, exotic props, instant live bets, and everything in between.
888sport currently offers moneyline, spread, total, if-bets, teaser, parlay, future, round robin, live, and proposition bets. The overall selection is great and offers a good mix of straight bets, game props, and player props.
Aside from moneyline, total, and spread bets, MLB games tend to offer between 45-60 additional bets, NFL games between 50-120, soccer games between 10-150, and NBA games 100-150. The variety of bets is impressive, offering alternative lines, game props, and player props, to name a few.
Betting on whether Khalil Mack will get over/under 1.5 sacks is a blast during the NFL season. Betting on only the first five innings of a baseball game helps shorten the time I spend staring at the TV screen during the MLB season.
Scorecast and instant betting are two betting categories for live games that often pertain to the next point in a game. These bets are offered for sports like soccer and tennis, and will hopefully be brought to other sports in the future.
Cash Out Feature
888sport offers the cash out feature, which allows you to take your original bet and lock in a profit or a loss by settling your bet (or a portion of your bet) early, without having to wait for the event to finish. This awesome feature is available at other US-regulated sportsbooks, such as DraftKings and FanDuel, but not any offshore sites. Knowing you can cash a bet out early incentivizes you to watch every game you bet on, or at least get scoring updates.
888sport has a minimum bet of $0.10 and varying maximums based on account status. I will update this section with more information if it becomes available.
Odds are an outlier for 888sport, which placed second to last in our 2019 rankings.
888sport offers some pretty terrible odds, placing 16th out of the 17 sportsbooks tested. 888sport ranks so poorly because they charge higher commissions on almost all total and spread bets. For example, a majority of sportsbooks offer -110 odds for both teams for NFL total bets, or -20 total. 888sport offers -114 odds for both teams for the same bet, or -28 total. Betting $10 at -110 odds would win you $9.09. Betting $10 at -114 odds would win you $8.77. This difference adds up over time and if you bet more than $10.
888sport top odds: Soccer moneyline odds (2nd)
888sport worst odds: 888 placed last or second to last in all bets for the NFL, NCAAF, NHL, MLB, and NCAAB, NBA moneyline bets (13th), NBA spread bets (16th), NBA total bets (15th)
Ranking Process - For this review, odds testing data spanning the NFL, NCAAF, NBA, NCAAB, MLB, NHL, and top soccer leagues was collected. Odds data measures over 1,400 games across nine offshore sportsbooks and eight US regulated sportsbooks. Moneyline, spread, and total bets were analyzed and weighted to comprise a 2019 ranking for each league, with moneyline bets typically receiving over 50% of the weighting.
There are 16-17 sportsbooks ranked for each league, except the MLB, where only 13 sportsbooks were ranked. This is due to some US regulated sportsbooks rolling out after the MLB season concluded.
Banking Options and Fees
888sport offers a variety of banking options, including bank transfers (ACH), PayPal, and NETELLER. 888sport is transparent with all of their banking options, providing their own honest ratings for each option.
888sport allows customers to deposit and withdraw money via bank transfers (ACH), NETELLER, cash at the casino cage (in Caesars Atlantic City), and PayPal. 888sport also accepts the following methods for deposits (but not withdrawals): Visa credit and debit cards, MasterCard, online banking transfer, and PayNearMe.
|Total Deposit Methods||7|
|No Debit/Credit Card Deposit Fees||Yes|
|Deposit Min/Max - Debit/Credit Card||$10/Varies|
888 allows customers to withdraw money via bank transfers (ACH), NETELLER, cash at the casino cage (in Caesars Atlantic City), and PayPal. While cash withdrawals don’t charge any fees, other methods may impose $1-$5 fees, which is still a lot cheaper than most offshore sportsbooks. Withdrawal minimums are typically set at $10.
|Total Withdrawal Methods||4|
|Check Payout Speed is < 10 days||Yes|
|No Withdrawal Fees - Check||Yes|
|Withdrawal Min/Max - Check||$10/Varies|
888sport is transparent in how their banking options work, having a dedicated page that ranks each banking method across five variables: simplicity, fees & charges, safety, availability, and speed.
888sport offers a great live betting experience with instant betting for select sports, a live match tracker, and a decent range of bets.
888sport offers live betting for the following sports: tennis, football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, and golf. The live betting menu offered by 888sport is the same as SugarHouse, which is fine since it is of high quality.
The live betting menu is impressive, offering users scores, statistics, and a range of bets. For example, the tennis menu offers instant betting, which allows users to bet on each point in real time. The overall display is clean and easily navigable, providing a great live betting experience.
Another cool live betting feature is the match tracker, for live betting sports such as football, basketball, hockey, and soccer. The match tracker has a live clock, displays the score by quarter, and even shows which team is attacking in real time. For NFL games, the match tracker also lists the last play, the total plays, and yards on the drive, and the down and distance. The match tracker is the same across other sites such as FanDuel and SugarHouse, and enhances any live betting experience.
888sport offers a mobile app for both Android and iPhone users. My expectations were exceeded on my iPhone 7, as well as my iPad. Navigation is fast while the presentation and layout make it easy to scroll around. Unlike other US regulated sportsbooks, 888sport has all their education pages in the app, which saves the user from having to open a tab in safari every time they have a question.
888sport currently only offers phone support and email support. They do not have live chat support for US operations, which is a big surprise considering how large they are in Europe. Failing to add on a US support team at launch is a misfire.
Education & Research
888sport offers some of the best education I’ve seen from a US sportsbook.
888sport offers the best education I’ve seen from a US sportsbook, which is attributed to their history in Europe combined with genuinely wanting all customers to be knowledgeable. The Sports Betting 101 section does a fantastic job of giving in-depth explanations of how to bet, what different betting types are, how to live bet and more. 888sport has a page explaining how to read odds, which is a subject every sportsbook should cover, but only a few do.
888sport has been a reputable European brand for ten years now, processing thousands upon thousands of bets. The only conflict I found on the company was a 2017 failure to help vulnerable customers limit the damage of their gambling addictions in Europe. The company was ordered to pay more than £7.8M ($9.9M), with half of the money going back to customers and the other half being paid to a socially responsible cause. Reportedly, customers who chose to block themselves for six months from 888’s gambling properties (casino, sports, poker, etc.) were still able to play bingo.
With that being the only issue in the last few years, bettors should have no concerns. 888 Holdings is a reputable publicly traded company.
888 Sports currently offered New Jersey residents the two promotions listed below in January when this review was written.
|Bonus Name||Minimum Deposit||Terms and Conditions||Rollover|
|100% Welcome Bonus||$10||100% match, up to $500, on first deposit only. Must choose bets that have odds of -200 or higher. Must be wagered at least 6 times in 30 days.||6X in 30 days||$10 Free||None||Free $10 for new players who register. Must be rolled over 6 times in 5 days of reveiving. Must choose bets that have odds of -200 or higher.||6X in 5 days|
If you enjoy playing poker, 888poker is one of the most well-known poker services out there. Opening an 888sport account provides access to sports betting, as well as poker.
888sport is a reliable sportsbook that offers a great selection of sports and bets. The cash out feature is sweet, the education provided is great for first-time bettors, and the mobile app is excellent. With SugarHouse and 888 being so similar, I would recommend choosing SugarHouse if you value better odds and customer support. 888sport is the better sportsbook if you bet on sports and play poker, or if you need more betting education.
For the BettingBuck.com annual best online sportsbooks review published in February 2019, a total of 2,300 data points were collected over six months and used to score sportsbooks. Additionally, odds data was collected for each sportsbook on over 1,400 bets to give each sportsbook a comparative odds ranking.
