In 2018, the United States Supreme Court struck down a federal law that prohibited online sports gambling, allowing each state to choose whether or not to regulate these practices. Since then, a majority of states have either passed or introduced legislation to legalize sports betting at retail locations, online, or both options.

Is Sports Betting Legal in Hawaii?

No, sports betting is currently not legal in Hawaii. Hawaii has a handful of bills that each focus on creating a task force to further examine sports betting, with the potential of legalizing it in the Aloha State. It is unlikely Hawaii will legalize sports betting any time soon since it is one of two states with no forms of legal online gambling.

What Would Legal Sports Betting Look Like in Hawaii?

There is currently no set outline or proposal for Hawaii sports betting. HB 1107 is focused on establishing a tax force to examine sports betting. The task force would look at positives and negatives of legal sports betting and make a recommendation on how to proceed if they found sports betting to be a viable source of revenue for the state.

Does Hawaii Have Any Online Gambling?

There are no forms of legal online gambling currently available to residents of Hawaii. Daily Fantasy Sports are still illegal, as well as online poker. Hawaii does not have a lottery. They also do not allow gambling on horse races or bingo. Hawaii is one of two states to have no forms of online gambling legalized.

Are offshore sportsbooks legal in Hawaii?

No, offshore sportsbooks such as Bovada are not legal in Hawaii. Offshore sportsbooks do accept residents of Hawaii as clients. Although BettingBuck always recommends betting with legal sportsbooks, we do review a handful of offshore sites like Bovada, 5Dimes, and MyBookie.
